Genetic data have provided new directions to understand the diseases for better public health protection. However, the complexity of genetic data poses challenges for appropriate and thorough analysis. In the seminar, the speaker will introduce some usages of mathematical and statistical modelling on the genetic data for understanding disease mechanisms, particularly focus on the infectious disease investigation. Application to the study of COVID-19 outbreak will be covered.

Description:
The “STEM Education and e-Learning Lesson Plan Award Scheme 2019” is organised by The Women’s Foundation and supported by the Education Bureau. It aims to further encourage teachers to share their experience and resources. Teachers can share lesson plans they have created with other teachers, support each other with strategies and ideas, while developing ways to improve STEM education and e-learning.
 
The winners of the Award Scheme have been selected by the Assessment Panel and announced on the Award Scheme website. Please visit the Girls Go Tech Programme website (www.ggthk.org) and click on Award Results to see all the award-winning lesson plans and testimonials from teachers.
 
Every teacher in Hong Kong is welcome to download all lesson plans that were submitted as part of this Award Scheme. They are available in the Teacher Corner of the Girls Go Tech Programme online platform, along with other resources.

The Women’s Foundation’s Girls Go Tech Programme 2020
 
Description:
The Women’s Foundation’s Girls Go Tech Programme aims to encourage female secondary school students from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue traditionally male-dominated STEM-related subjects to maximise their future career options. Through the Programme, students develop skills including self-confidence, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration, to help achieve their future academic and career goals.
 
To enable more female students to benefit and to share more resources, the Girls Go Tech Programme 2020 is now open to secondary schools that serve a proportion of students from deprived backgrounds. The Programme is free to join, aiming to reach female students from Secondary 3 to 6. There is no maximum number of participants per school.
