This series of inspirational courses focus on the 4 themes: Joy of Living, Sustainability, Health and Security, aiming to enrich and inspire principals, sciences and mathematics teachers on the fascinating global grand challenges, hoping to be incorporated into the STEM education and eventually, foster innovation and facilitate career readiness for our next generation.

Description:
On top of the cross-KLA and KLA-based professional development programmes (PDPs) organised, we plan to organise the Intensive Training Programme (ITP) for curriculum leaders and middle managers of secondary schools. The ITP aims to further strengthen their capacity in planning and implementing school-based STEM-related activities with focus on holistic curriculum planning and cross-KLA/cross-subject collaboration.

In the coming two to three school years, five batches of ITP with each comprising about ten repeated events are planned to be organised. Each event will last for 12 hours being made up of four 3-hour sessions. The modes of the ITP will include seminars, workshops and experience sharing sessions. Each school will be invited to nominate four participants, including the principal/vice-principal, panel heads/coordinators of the Science, Technology and Mathematics Education Key Learning Areas (KLAs) to jointly participate in one of the offered events in due course.

About 130 technology and science items in China and Hong Kong will be displayed in the hope of inspiring youths to enter the field. The foundation, founded by former chief executive Tung Chee-hwa in 2014, said it will divide the exhibition hall into three themed zones – Astronomy, Informatics and Oceanography.

Each zone will display both ancient and modern exhibits demonstrating China’s 5,000-year growth in innovation and technology.

Highlights include the world’s fastest super computer, Sunway TaihuLight, a model of the FAST Telescope which receives radio signals from a pulsar 1,351 light-years away from Earth with the size of 30 football fields, and the latest reduced-scale model of China’s aircraft carrier.

“Science in the Public Service” (SIPS) is a joint campaign by government bureaux/departments and other organizations to promote their scientific work and application of technology to the provision of services for the general public. From August to November this year, a series of public talks and forums will be held and the theme is “Application of STEM in Public Services”.
