Introduction:
The Education Bureau is actively promoting STEAM in primary and secondary schools, and has announced the “Enriched Module on Coding Education for Upper Primary Level”, to help schools implement coding education more systematically. The curriculum units are adopted and adapted from CoolThink@JC programme. The Education University of Hong Kong, through the CoolThink@JC programme, will provide free teacher workshops related to coding education. The Artificial Intelligence and Digital Competence Education Centre (AIDCEC) at The Education University of Hong Kong has established two communities of Practice (CoPs) for teacher professional development, named “CoP on CT Implementation and Catering for Learner Diversity” and “CoP on Integrating CT into Subject Learning”. These communities aimed at providing teachers with opportunities for mutual exchange and helping teachers gain a deeper understanding of computational thinking education, specifically: (1) how to implement it in schools, (2) how to cater for learning diversity, and (3) how to integrate computational thinking into subject learning. Seven schools, which have rich experience in implementing computational thinking education (CTE), co-lead these communities of practice:
- Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) Primary School
- Fukien Secondary School Affiliated School
- King’s College Old Boys’ Association Primary School No. 2
- Li Cheng Uk Government Primary School
- PLK Women’s Welfare Club (WD) Fung Lee Pui Yiu Primary School
- Tuen Mun Government Primary School
- W F Joseph Lee Primary School
We sincerely invite primary school teachers to participate in the Communities of Practice and related activities.
