Description:
Seeking to inspire digital creativity among students and nurture their proactive use of technologies for social good from a young age, CoolThink@JC is a computational thinking education programme created and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and co-created by The Education University of Hong Kong, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and City University of Hong Kong. Since 2016, the Programme trained more than 400 teachers from 79 primary schools and benefited over 36,000 primary students. Per a third-party evaluation, CoolThink Students have grown twice as much in their problem-solving skills as non-participating students.
The Briefing Session aims to introduce the support provided by CoolThink@JC, including Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (AI), curriculum tailored for P4-P6 students, professional development for teachers, co-teaching supports from teaching assistants and subsidy for purchasing digital devices. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is launching a Project entitled “Science World: Exploring Space to Benefit Mankind” Education Programme in the 2021/22 school year for secondary students, which aims to cultivate the interest of local youth in space science and elevate their enthusiasm for participating in the development of space technology. Part Two: Competition

Interested Secondary 3 to 5 students can further join a science experiment competition. Students are required to design scientific experiments by making use of microgravity in the space station to benefit mankind. Description:
The course will last for 12 hours, comprising four 3-hour sessions:

Session 1: Designing of STEM Learning and Teaching Activities
Session 2 & 3: Workshops of STEM Activities
Session 4: School Sharing and Feedback

The modes of the course will include lectures, workshops and experience sharing sessions. After the completion of sessions 1 – 3, the participants have to prepare a sharing of their own STEM activity proposal, with the focus on enhancing the design of STEM learning, teaching and assessment activities in their schools, and their self-reflection as the role of STEM teachers in schools, and share their proposals in session 4. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants who have completed the course and submitted all the assignments.

This series of lectures is co-organised by the Joseph Needham Foundation for Science and Civilisation, the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences and the Hong Kong Science Museum, with the aims to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and to enable students and the public to learn more about the recent development of some STEM-related topics, including epidemiological control and clinical management, philosophy of Chinese medicine in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, applications of brain-wave control technology, smart antimicrobial technologies, applications in artificial intelligence and green economy, as well as to recognise the challenges and opportunities of innovation and entrepreneurship in Hong Kong.
