Objective:
It aims to provide the public with an opportunity to experience and appreciate Hong Kong’s achievements in innovation and technology, and foster an innovation and technology culture in the community. This year’s InnoCarnival carries the theme “Innovate for a Smart Future”. Around 60 programme partners including local universities, government departments, technology enterprises and youth education organisations will showcase their projects awarded at International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva and other local events, and enhance the public’s understanding of the smart city development in the future by demonstrating Hong Kong innovations in various technology areas, such as robotics, green technology and biotechnology, etc. The Carnival will also feature an array of activities including workshops on innovation technology, interactive games, stage performance, guided tours and talks given by scholars and industry professionals. Members of the public are welcome to join the activities and meet with Mcmug, the ambassador of Innovation and Technology, during the Carnival.

This series of lectures is co-organised by the Joseph Needham Foundation for Science and Civilisation, the Education Bureau, the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Science Museum, with an aim to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and to enable students and the public, to learn more about the recent development of some STEM-related topics, including artificial intelligence, stem cells and regenerative medicine, and optical fibre technology; as well as to recognise the challenges and opportunities of innovation and entrepreneurship in Hong Kong.

Description:
The “2018/2019 STEM Challenge Programme” is organised by the MTR Corporation and supported by the Education Bureau. It aims to arouse the interest of S2 to S5 secondary school students on exploring the world around them and heighten their interest in STEM subjects. The programme consists of School Talk, STEM Challenge and Overseas Study Tour. Details are available at https://www.en.mtrstemchallenge.com.
“STEM Challenge” is a competition which offers students the opportunity to apply their STEM knowledge and develop their own vision for a theme related to innovation for sustainable infrastructure. Schools interested in nominating students for the competition may apply at the above-mentioned website on or before 5:00 p.m. on 28 February 2019.

近年人工智能的發展,已滲入到我們日常生活中,例如Facebook對用戶上載照片的人臉辨識、Google的語音辦識、手機中文輸入因應使用者的習慣而提供關連字詞等,都是日常接觸到的例子。從人類的歷史看到,每一輪科技革命,都會帶來新一輪工作革命,例如工業革命讓大批的農民變成了工人、服務員及白領;在今後10到20年,人工智能技術,將會取代一部份傳統行業,帶來新一輪的工作革命。二十一世紀我們的教育,應培養一些怎麼樣的人才?
人工智能是新一輪科技革命和產業變革的核心驅動力,世界各國紛紛搶灘佈局。中國政府於2017年中推出了首份國家級人工智能發展規劃:《新一代人工智能發展規劃》,力爭到2030年實現把我國建設成為世界主要人工智能創新中心;今年初,中國教育部公佈了新的課程標準,將人工智能、物聯網、大數據處理正式劃入高中「信息技術」學科。
嶺南大學與英特爾公司合作,在嶺大建立全港首個「英特爾智能創新中心」,運用英特爾公司的硬件及技術,向中小學提供人工智能的體驗活動及培訓。是次研討會,將會介紹英特爾公司在人工智能方面的研究及應用,以及一些面向中小學生的人工智能課程及活動。

Prof. Florence Sullivan from University of Massachusetts Amherst in The United States as Keynote Speaker will introduce how the multi-dimensional nature of the robotics problem space supports student learning and engagement with robotics from cognitive, social, and affective lenses. Through the demonstration on moving between two and three-dimensional representations, Prof. Sullivan will also share how to promote problem solving discussions via debugging, algorithmic development, and systems understanding.
