Gifted Education Fund: Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes (2023/24)

Gifted Education Fund: Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes (2023/24)

Nurturing talents has always been a focus of EDB. We are encouraging schools to develop school-based talent pools as a way to strengthen the identification and nurturing of gifted students, as well as nominate more of them to take part in off-school gifted programmes and competitions.

The Gifted Education Fund not only supports the enhanced services of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE), but also funds Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes (OSALPs) for gifted students. In the current school year, 12 new programmes have been rolled out. Covering such themes as STEAM (including aerospace and artificial intelligence), humanities and social science, as well as apprenticeship and entrepreneurship, these programmes are extensive and challenging. EDB is strengthening collaboration with HKAGE whose representatives will be involved in the selection process of all programmes.

Applications are now open for Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes (2023/24 school year)! Schools can make good use of their school-based talent pools and nominate gifted students for programmes that suit their needs and interests.

To know more about the programmes or to apply for them, please visit:

CoolThink@JC App Inventor Student Training Workshop

CoolThink@JC App Inventor Student Training Workshop

The Education Bureau (EDB) has stepped up the promotion of STEAM education in primary schools for all students by launching the “Enriched Module on Coding Education for Upper Primary Level”, adopted from CoolThink@JC. Starting October 2023, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is partnering with MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node to further develop computational thinking education by bringing CoolThink App Inventor courses to schools and students who have not previously participated in CoolThink programme. This provides equal opportunities for every student to learn this essential 21st century skill and prepares them for a rapidly digitizing future.

The target participants are students from Primary 5 to Primary 6 (Priority will be given to students from government schools, aided schools, and Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools who have not previously participated in CoolThink). Schools interested in nominating students for the training workshop can get the details of the training workshop and apply through the following website: https://forms.gle/XRviKsFknUdt4u2s7
