Description:
Technovation is a global technology entrepreneurship challenge for girls aged 10-18.It was originated in the United States and introduced to Hong Kong by the Young Makers & ChangeMakers (YMCM) in 2017. It aims to offer an opportunity for female students around the world to learn the knowledge and skills required for technology entrepreneurs and leaders through participating in this Challenge. The Challenge is about identifying problems of one’s own community and offer solutions in the form of a mobile application. In addition, participants are also required to write a business plan for her mobile application. In order to prepare students to participate in this global challenge, the YMCM will organise a local competition called #GirlsMakeTech. A series of training programme consisting of workshops, corporate visits and a bootcamp will be offered to local schools who join this local competition. Outstanding teams will win a chance to a summer camp in Shenzhen

The deadlines for online registration for #GirlsMakeTech and Technovation 2018 are 28 February 2018 and 7 March 2018 respectively. Schools are encouraged to participate in the captioned competitions and related activities to promote whole-person development.

WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition 2018

WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition 2018
 
Description:
The WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition 2018 (hereafter “the Competition”) is jointly organised by the Vocational Training Council, the Construction Industry Council and the Clothing Industry Training Authority. It is a biennial event organised since 1996 and aims to provide a platform for young people aged 21 or below to showcase skills excellence and challenge themselves against professional standards and skills. Winners may have a chance to represent Hong Kong in the WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, Russia, in August 2019.

This year, 24 skills areas are up for competition, which include Bricklaying, Electrical Installations, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Wall and Floor Tiling, 3D Digital Game Art, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Jewellery, Visual Merchandising, IT Software Solutions for Business, Web Design and Development, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Mechatronics, Mobile Robotics, Welding, Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Hairdressing, Pâtisserie and Confectionery, Restaurant Service, and Car Painting.

The Competition is now open for application. Secondary school students who are Hong Kong permanent resident with relevant knowledge of respective skills or work experience, born on or after 1 January 1997 (or 1 January 1994 for those who compete in “Mechatronics”), are encouraged to take part in the Competition. The application will close on 28 February 2018 ( The application deadline for “Cooking”, “Pâtisserie and Confectionery” and “Restaurant Service” is 31 January 2018).
