Description:

STEM Student Lectures: “A Kaleidoscopic Glance into Engineering”, will be conducted on 23 & 30 June 2022 via real time online mode. It is organised by The Education Bureau (EDB), together with The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and The Institution of Engineering and Technology Hong Kong (IET-HK).

In the lectures, engineers from different fields will give short talks on their authentic experience and the latest development in their specialised engineering fields, and host small group interactive dialogue sessions. The activity aims to give an overview of the engineering sector to students and its associations with learning of STEM-related subjects, and encourage students to proactively equip themselves with STEM-related knowledge through school subjects.

Gifted Education Fund: Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes

Gifted Education Fund: Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes

Gifted Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau


A total of 14 off-school advanced learning programmes funded by the Gifted Education Fund are available for gifted students at primary and secondary levels in the current school year. These programmes relate to themes such as STEM education, humanities and social science, as well as corporate management. The deadline for application is 16 May 2022

Description:
CoolThink@JC inspires digital creativity by empowering all students to move beyond mere technology consumption and into innovative use of technologies for social good. Since 2016, the Programme trained more than 600 teachers from 131 primary schools and benefited over 70,000 primary students. Per a third-party evaluation, CoolThink Students have grown twice as much in their problem-solving skills as non-participating students. The programme is going to recruit the last cohort of network schools — Cohort 6. The recruited schools will implement the CoolThink@JC curriculum starting from 2023-24.

The Briefing Session aims to introduce the support provided by CoolThink@JC, including Computational Thinking, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Programmable Robotics curriculum for P4-P6 students, professional development for teachers, co-teaching supports from teaching assistants and subsidy for purchasing digital devices. Description:
This is a self-paced student-centred learning program for primary and secondary school students organised by the Hong Kong Virtual University (HKVU) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in partnership with the Hong Kong Education City, the HKUST–Lee Kum Kee Happy Family Learning Center and the Education Bureau (EDB).

There are 15 web-based courses, conducted by lecturers from the tertiary institutions, on science, technology, engineering, arts/ English language and mathematics disciplines. Electronic Award Certificates will be issued to the participants who have completed the required number of courses.

Deadline for application is 6 May 2022 (Friday). Schools interested in nominating students should complete the nomination form at https://hkvu.hk/e-steam-sis and return it to HKVU through (email address:hkvu@ust.hk).
